This past week, the Youth Development program of Peace Corps Cameroon hosted the 2nd annual National Girls Forum in a resort in Kribi. The theme of this year’s forum was “Keeping Girls in School”. In addition to the thirty Peace Corps volunteers in attendance, present were representatives from RENATA, ACMS, Education Fights AIDS, and delegates from three government ministries. Also, in attendance were Nenne and Caroline from the CFDP management team who presented the work of CFDP alongside Peace Corps volunteer Ryan Arnold. They presented the work that CFDP is doing in Kumba and how using sports and Life Skills helps keep girls in school.

People were very excited and impressed about the work and vision of CFDP. After the presentation, Nenne, Caroline and Ryan spent 45 minutes answering questions and discussing more of CFDP’s operations. The delegate of the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment congratulated CFDP on the work they are doing and said that this is exactly what Cameroon needs. He said, “did you realize that by teaching character and leadership alongside football skills you open up the possibility to change the culture of football in Cameroon? This is exactly what we need.”

All in all, it was a successful forum. Many ideas were shared, lots of connections were made and CFDP made a big impression on the Peace Corps and all those working in Cameroon for Girls Empowerment.
