We don’t just play…. We PLAY4PURPOSE!
Since 2010, our dedicated staff have been working to implement educational sport-based programs to engage and empower youth in Cameroon. Upon reflecting on all of our activities near the end of 2016, we realized we were missing opportunities to make even greater impact.
In January 2017, we began to re-design our approach to sport for development and test components of what is now our PLAY4PURPOSE model. Youth are now involved in every aspect of planning and implementing educational youth soccer leagues in their neighborhoods. Our goal is not only to deliver high quality programs to youth participants in the communities where we work, but to create a framework to scale and replicate in other communities in Cameroon and elsewhere in Africa and across the developing world.
To achieve this goal, we want to operate PLAY4PURPOSE in 5 neighborhoods in Cameroon, combining all of the various elements we’ve been testing this year into action and creating a ‘tool kit’ for use in new sites in 2018 and 2019.
Our goal is to raise $50,000 ($10,000 for each of the 5 neighborhoods) before December 31, 2017 to kick-start our efforts in 2018. Thanks to the generous support of donors in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia in October, we have already raised $20,000 to sponsor PLAY4PURPOSE in 2 neighborhoods in Kumba.
